Splash Water Park in La Mirada

The Splash! La Mirada Aquatic Center is located on 18 acres in La Mirada Regional Park. Buccaneer Bay is the water park located in Splash. This newly opened park is smaller and less expensive then the big name parks like Raging Waters and Wild Rivers.

Buccaneer Bay has a wading area with slides and a tower for smaller children plus two interactive spray areas. There is also a large tower with three slides for children over 48". The lazy river is open to all ages. This was popular with my sons and their Grandma. Water pushes you along as you walk in the river or float on a raft, if you can find one.

Children under 48" must wear a life jacket at all times. We went on a Friday morning and got there at 10:20 am and got in a large line to wait for the park to open. By the time we got in all the tables with shade were taken. There were buses of day camps at the park and it was very crowded. I would recommend coming earlier in the week or after 2 pm, when most camps leave.
They were out of their cheap style life jackets when we got into the gate with our wrist bands. The girl directed me on a wild goose chase to get a jacket. I ended up going back to the car and brought my own in. Even though I kept putting sunscreen on my kids, they still got a little red. The sun is very strong in the water. Since there was so many people and nobody stopping kids at the gate, it is very easy to lose sight of them. My son made it through the gate on his own when I turned my head. Outside of Buccaneer Bay, near the food, is a large pool that guests can utilize. There is also a jacuzzi in the spa area for adults 18 and over.

No outside food is allowed and bags are thoroughly checked every time you come in the park. Since the restrooms and food are outside the gates, my bags got checked several times. The restrooms are a quick walk from the park and have changing areas. Food is barbecued to order at the Backyard Grille. I had a vegeburger and it was good. We bought snow cones but they were just about to run out of ice so I wouldn't wait until late into the day to buy one. If you
want to bring a lunch, you could leave it in the car or locker outside Buccaneer Bay and eat it on the grass in front of the facility. Cabanas and all day lockers are also available for rent. Parking is free.
